There is always debate on the safety of different finishes but the wide majority of people utilize a mixture of food grade mineral oil and often beeswax, or something like 100% Tung Oil. I’ve found a great product in The Real Milk Paint Co.’s line of natural finishes. I personally used their Cutting Board oil, the Half and Half (Tung Oil and Citrus Solvent), and 100% Tung Oil and have had phenomenal results!
