My Essential FIVE SHOP TOOLS

…not my shop.

Woodworking is a timeless craft that combines artistry, skill, and precision. Whether you're a seasoned woodworker or just starting out, having the right tools in your workshop is crucial for achieving professional results. In this blog post, we'll explore the top five essential woodworking tools that every craftsman or hobbyist should have in their arsenal. From shaping and cutting to joining and finishing, these tools will empower you to bring your woodworking projects to life with finesse and efficiency.

Here are my top 5 products that are crucial to a shop that house both your ability to function and enjoy your time:

1 —

Table Saw

The table saw is the backbone of any woodworking shop. Its versatility and ability to make precise cuts make it indispensable for a wide range of projects. From ripping boards to crosscutting and even creating complex joinery, a quality table saw provides the foundation for your woodworking endeavors. Look for features like a sturdy rip fence, adjustable blade height, and a reliable miter gauge for optimal versatility and accuracy. There are essentially two types of table saw that the simple to mediocre woodworker will utilize: a worksite and a contractor’s saw. The worksite saw (a good one linked here) can be functional for many years as you build your craft, especially if you build a crosscut sled! Just be aware that these have a wide array of different features, so be aware of what you’re choosing before you make that final purchase. Secondly, the contractor’s saw like the T2 from Delta is a fantastic upgrade from the jobsite saw that won’t break the bank. There are loads of reliable brands out there like Grizzly, Powermatic, or others that are great options if you want to shell out the cash for the quality.

Router

A router is a true workhorse that opens up a world of possibilities in woodworking. With its ability to shape edges, create intricate designs, and make precise cuts, a router is essential for adding decorative details and achieving professional finishes. Whether you're creating decorative moldings, crafting dovetail joints, or carving intricate patterns, a router is an indispensable tool that will take your woodworking projects to the next level. I could get into an extensive review about different types of routers, bits, etc. but that’s for a different time. If your starting out, get a good cordless palm router that can handle your essential edging bits as well as a good flush cut bit. That will DEFINITELY take you a long way in the shop!

Beard Brush & Comb Set

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
